Tyanglea from a recent shoot. Lighting with 3 320WS Photogenics and some gels. Still discovering and learning about my "glamour side" and the challenges of correct lighting and composition. Your critiques appreciated and expect model will view images here as well. Thanks...and open the "Glamour College of Knowledge". pcguru Click for larger version

Please describe the shooting conditions and tools used. Be as detailed as possible, with settings, distances, ratios, etc.

As an initial observation you appear to be diluting your back ground color with spill from your front lights and your images look underexposed.

Have subject coming on Sunday. Will have all set up and metered in advance. Any way to check flash meter to be sure is accurate? Thermometer can use "melting ice test". Anything similar for flash meter?
Thanks!

You could shoot a target (see http://www.photovisionvideo.com/), and set your camera accordingly. Then examine the image in Photoshop using the histogram. If the gray peak is off center, then you need to adjust. Repeat prior steps as necessary with an offset on the light meter to compensate.

There is variance in both cameras and light meters. So you need to make sure that your combinations of cameras and light meters are correctly calibrated.

Go outside and shoot in bright sun at 100 ISO and f:8.0 @ 1/500 and you should get a good exposure. See if the Camera and the hand held meter agree when you meter incident and off a gray card.

The do a face mask histogram as shown at Shootsmarter.com and see what the results are.

If you don't want to buy a target, you can do the same thing with three pieces of mount board, black white and gray.

I like the concept on the first one, I've been thinking about some idea's with frames myself. One of the first things I noticed about this picture though is it doesn't look like she has any legs. Perhaps you could try a closer crop or in the future light the legs a little more.
