I made a studio session with my brother-in-law's girlfriend.

And I like this picture, but, still I know it could be better. That's what I look foward to hearing: How would it be better? What should I have done?

TIA

It's a well lit portrait and it's technically well done. I'm not sure that you'll get too many different responses.

In what way are you wondering how you could have made it better?

I feel something is missing, I mean: maybe the colour temperature, I know is a picture with a white background, but I still feel everything is too white. A bit plain...dunno exactly.

She seems a bit nervous or tense. Her arms are held nearly straight - which tenses things. She's pulled her shoulders forward a bit - which creates a sensation of isolating herself from the viewer. She's resting her upper thighs on her lower legs, which flattens both and emphasizes the size of her thighs - not usually flattering. Also her hands are not her best feature and this pose rather makes them apparent - although I can't suggest a simple fix for this pose, now that I'm thinking about it. Her hair is slightly disarrayed, which you should have caught. I personally find the slight bit of exposed skin at the back of her midrift a bit distracting and serving no real purpose.

She's quite lovely. You did really well, given a first-time model. The lighting, the exposure - all the technical stuff looks pretty good. Most subjects don't relax when you point a camera at them - it takes practice before someone becomes themselves. You should, if you can, shoot with her again a couple of times. You might consider a bit less even lighting, to increase the sculptural quality of the portrait.

I believe it is cropped too tight.. and the quality of light, while a good high key, has no modeling on the face, and as said. a bit coolish on color.

I have found if the girls do not let their fingers slide so far over their knee that their fingers curl, it will give a more glamours look.

That is really a clean high key.

I think it's a good shot but I agree the color could be a little warmer. Maybe a little use of the shadow/highlight tool in PS.

Also, the eyes could be sharper but other than that it's a nice shot, well lit as previously stated.

Overall, I think it's a good shot. Two minor things that I see are no catch lights in her eyes and her elbows are locked. Her eyes look like two black holes and the locked elbows make her appear very tense. You could play with snooting your strobe use a black reflector for some negative lighting to create some more shading in the photo, which would affect the flat lighting.

She is a very lovely lady. Will she model for you some more? Keep working with her and she'll relax more and more.

Thanks for sharing!

Good day.

Im not a studio shooter, so I don't know what to tell you to improve it, but to me her face looks a little washed out

Was your brother-in-law in the room with you two? If so, then maybe she felt tense because of his presence. I'm no expert in this yet, but I'm learning, with the help of all of you of course. I can't wait to post my first images, which will be this weekend as I have my very first photo shoot on Thursday.
