Ok, would you classify this image as a silhouette or not? Of course c&c are welcome.

I know you're going through an exploratory phase, but why anguish over classification? It isn't a silhouette - which my dictionary defines as "1. a dark shadow or outline seen against a light background. 2. a profile portrait in solid black." But it is an interesting portrait of a lovely woman. Rather flat, too much flare, too little shadow detail for my taste, and overly backlit. But an interesting portrait nonetheless. Not to lecture, but it seems to me that the central question is whether or not it expresses what you wanted to express.

Actually, I may deem this one as an equipment failure. What happened was my old flash didn't fire, thereby causing this as the end result. I may also classify this as one of the reasons I got a newer, much better flash. But I thought that this may work in some way. Either way, thank you four your input. I agree with you, it's kind of stuck in the middle between a full dark sihouette and the highlights are really bright.

Her shape would be all black if it were a silhouette. There appears to be some
light spill coming from the right side of the picture that is washing out some
of the image at the edges on that side. If you had metered for that bright
background, a silhouette probably would have been your result.

Take the image into Photoshop/Images/Adjustments/Threshold and I think you'll like the results a lot better than this one.

Sorry Brad, don't even own a cell phone, I'm one of those film shooters. What happened was my flash didn't fire on this particular exposure hence creating the semi-sihlouette effect with lots of noise.
