Zakd,

I like the first shot and my eyes could not find a fault. The shadow on the right side (camera left) of her face isn't flattering. A reflector to add some fill or perhaps moving the key light would help create a more flattering shadow.

Zak,

I certainly like the second shot better. Very commercial looking (but I'm a commercial guy so that makes sense,) Could very easily be in a Barneys or Nordstrom catalog or mailer. Improvements would be to add a catchlight in the eyes. She has naturally dark eyes so they need something to open them up a bit. Also the highlights on her cheekbones and eye sockets look to be clipping a bit. If you shot raw dial back your highlights a bit and layer in those areas. You can also try Photoshop's Shadow/Highlight but only on selected areas and only with a 16bit image.

I always like the non-standard lighting sets so keep it up.

Steve

I choose #2 as well as the best of the two. Only critique is the light is pretty dark in the model's right eye.

Zak, would agree that #1 is a pleasing image. #2 a litle more light or reflector fill to soften the shadows would have helped and would also lend a bit of light to the eye on the camera right as it is also a little dark.

Rule 10 image

Zacd, as others have mentioned the lack of a catch light in the eyes distracts from the image. However I think the reason it is not there is your main light is too high. Another tell tale sign of this is the dark circles under her eyes showing up so well. This generally happens when the lights are higher then they should be.
