Size is just fine. Just keep the size below 600 pixels high and you have the best chance of working on the most browsers.

You have very sharp details in the attractive fence, building and green plants. And the door frame growing out of the head is easy to see also.

In other words, look around at the area you're shooting in and find some place that does note have all these distractions as part of the background. Also be very careful with this type of pose because it often puts a crease in the skin as this one has which can be unsightly.

I'll echo the comment above and add that the highlight coming down the pole between the models leg probably doesn't need to be there....

The first thing you should do prior to shooting is establish your set. Once you have that set up how you want it (even if that just means figuring out what angle you want to shoot it at, or how you want to light it, what needs to be moved around, etc.) THEN you figure out how to best place the model in the set. This is true whether shooting in a studio or on location.

I came to this through film and video and still apply those same skills. Try to think of a photoshoot as a production and plan it accordingly. Unfortunately I'm not at a location where I can post an example of what I'm talking about, but I will try to remember to repost tonight with an example.

If the location I want to use is near me (say for example if this is your house) then spend a day photographing it and lighting it in different ways (adding a reflector, using a light with a cookie, trying out different times of day, etc) without a model. Experiment and see what works best. Then you'll have an idea of what your set possibilities are. Then once you have the "set" or location as you would want it, examine the photos and figure out how you would want the model positioned in it. By doing all of this you will go into the shoot knowing what you can use to your advantage and what you will have to watch out for.

In the photo you posted, had you moved the model a little further from the background and reduced your DOF it would have resulted in a more pleasing shot, then I would have Photoshopped out the pole sticking out of her head and reduced the highlight between her legs.

On the plus side she is a very attractive model and if you can keep working with her while you refine your skills you will have some beautiful images.
