Fresh from my shoot with Ashley yesterday. This was her very first professional photoshoot, but she came prepared with ideas, outfits, a MUA and the courage to attempt a lot of different looks. I created the background and added curl to her hair with Photoshop,

Very pretty girl, with a lovely, lovely smile. I like the curl/wave in her hair, and I like your choice of color - complementing her nicely, but the "texture" of the background doesn't do anything for me. Just my opinion.

Thanks for both your comments. The MUA (model hired her) left before the first image was taken. After the model and I looked at the first few images, she hated her hair and I thought the makeup looked ... muddy! While the model watched, I cleaned up the makeup ... then for amusement, I showed her how the liquid tool could add wave to her hair. She loved the look, so we kept the image.

Question for you guys --
I've recently had two MUAs use something that makes the models face look like "adobe mud" on camera. Unfortunately, both MUAs left before I got a shot off so I couldn't ask them. This makeup makes the model look like she has rosatia (or they look like transvestites). I've tried changing white balance settings to reduce the red, but it tends to make the rest of her face look pale. Any thoughts on how to compensate for the ruddy makeup job -- other than scraping it off or doing a lot of Photoshop afterward?

It may be the brand of make-up, in that some brands reflect UV light differently than others, so that what looks like the same to your eye photographs differently. I'd call your MUA ASAP, while there's a prayer they'll remember and discuss the problem with them. And check a shot on a big screen BEFORE the MUA leaves, if possible.

a lot of MUAs i know use MAC makeup. they sell it at Robinsons/May and at Macy's. MAC has some cool and "different" colors and looks great

I give the MUA instructions beforeshe begins her makeup job. This way she knows what NOT to do when and i usually get a satifactory result. I do not think it has to be the make up brand - but it is important that the makeup not nessisarily be what they might get away with on the street as a photograph has different requirements..
