Living in Texas, I've been very envious of guys like Andy McFarland, Andy Pearlman and all the other photographers that have beautiful oceans nearby to use as a backdrop for their hot bikini shots. All we have in Texas are muddy lakes. But that didn't stop me from attempting my first "bikini on the lake" shoot with the beautiful Jamie Everett.

Finally, here's my apprentice, lighting assistant and stand-in model enjoying the perks of working with me.

My apprentice was holding a 36" gold reflector on some of the shots, plus on others I used my SB-80DX on-camera flash (I don't have those fancy portable studio lights).. This is the last shot we took, using only my SB-80 and my 70-200mm f2.8 VR lens.

It seems that keeping it simple does work.

I don't use no stieeenkin' meter!
Besides ... "meters" are for all those non-Americans. I use "feet" ... as in how many feet am I from the subject. I set the flash to full power, stand about 10 feet away ... shoot and chimp. The picture and histogram tell me everythign I need. Once I find the correct distance that gives me the best exposure, I try to stand that many feet away from the model and let me lens do the zooming. It's not very scientific or technical, but it works for me.

Very nice photos! You made effective use of your muddy lake where it didn't seem so muddy if at all.

That poor guy. Clearly he is being abused by his employer and is ready to walk off the job permanently!

Where do I go to apply?
