As promised, I had my second shoot with the lovely Jennifer to see if I could get lightening (or in this case, lighting) to strike twice. I needed to prove to myself that I could "make it happen" whenever I wanted and that the first shoot wasn't dumb luck.

We started off with a few more "Playboy-style" images -- only this time we were in a different location in my house ... and I was using some borrowed JTL lights instead of my Bees (just to add to my challenges). The results were good, but the challenges of the new location and different lights cause the lighting setup to take a lot longer than I'm used to (glad she's patient).

Then she asked if we could shoot another outfit ... but she wanted a hotter look ... not so "Playboy-soft." I quickly set up my white seamless at the other end of the room, switched from softboxes to my gold & silver umbrellas ... and she oiled up. The second set of images were a lot more fun and a completely different look. The setup time was about 10 minutes (which she loved) and the images turned out very hot ... she loved them, saying they looked more "poster-like." This week we're sending her nudes off to Playboy, so our fingers are crossed!

Nikon D100, Nikkor 70-20mm VR f2.8, five JTL 300 lights. Hair & Makeup by Bridgette Daughtery. All images shot in my home.

Holy smoke !! Nice work Marty.. She looks like she should be well on her way to Playboy.. One question for you...Why did you not use the softbox with the white backdrop ?

Good question --
For the Playboy-style images, I wanted soft, wrap-around light that would make her skin look creamy smooth and her hair look silky soft. Using softboxes with egg crate grids gave me the soft light I wanted and "spill control" I needed.

For the hotter (oiled-skin) look, I wanted the opposite look -- her skin needed to have a really "hard edge" look and I wanted her oiled body parts to reflect a strong light so the image would "pop." I've found that using my gold & silver umbrellas (or just direct lights) gives me that hot, glistening look. I suppose I could have tried it with softboxes, but I stuck with the type of lights I knew would do the trick.

The image below is a better representation of the type of poster-style "pop" image I was looking to accomplish.

Great Shots. Beautiful model. And now I know what suspenders were really made for. Thanks! I hope to have my garage studio up and running by summer because my house is not as neat as yours.

Those images are gorgeous! WHY does Dallas have such a high number of rockin' photographers!? It's unfair! (insert big, childish pout here...)

That is really cool when you can get a model to help out with the creative process with the style, outfits and lighting like that. Good shots of an attractive model.
