Pete,

The second pic's definitely my favorite. The out of focus background makes her pop out and her look makes the shot a bit candid and natural. #s 1 and 3 look good, but #2 really clicks (pardon the pun) with me. My only caveat with #2 is the direction she's facing (would prefer her facing camera right), but that may just be me. As with any critique, part of it is influenced by a photographer's individual style and isn't necessarily 'right' or 'wrong.' Just take it as alternatives and go from there. Learn from others, adapt their techniques and create your own style.

Best,
Alan

thans alan, funny about the way she is looking, she thinks that is her bad side! lol

#1 was actually cropped in slightly and did show more of the background that I liked, this crop just seems to work better. other than that they have not been edited. Taken with natural light (8.30am) sigma 70 - 200 with a large gold reflector in #1

thanks for taking the time.

Sorry man, I can't get my eyes off of her eyes in #2.

#1 has too much empty space below her face for me, maybe a different crop?

#3 I like the genuine expression on her face. I understand what look you were going for, but IMO could use a bit more contrast on the face.

#2 Did I mention I can't stop looking at her eyes. I love the contrast between the white in the back and her dark hair without creating too much of a distraction. There seems to be a faint diagonal line that flows from the lower left up her front to her eyes (Intentional?) You also nailed the color on this one.

Practice is a good thing

cheers Jo

#2 is my favourite too and I agree completely that #3 is a bit overexposed, I just love the expression. I found this place last week, its between the footings of a pumping station on the banks of the River Mersey, it is a row of pillars that run into the distance. it gives really nice light and an interesting back ground. I'll be using it again.

I like all three with the second being my personal favorite also. The depth of field looks really good on this one. Good natural color and clear sharp images.

Like the eyes a lot on the 1st one. You have great skin tone in it also...look at JT's portfolio though, he rarely exposes detail on his model's face.
