I'm not an expert, but I would think that for a model the purpose of a portfolio is to display what you look like, how you hold yourself (no pun intended), your ability to emote, that sort of thing. So I would think the one that shows your face would be more valuable.

Yea.......it was a toss up.......I love the mystery of the second image, but the first does show my face.

Stepping out on a limb here. The first image reminds me of the early Vincent Price movies. Your eye are just black holes. The second is a little better, but your face is missing. I agree that you need that in your port. Remember the port is for your BEST work...Therefore, neither.

Sabrina,

You might have caught a similar thread from a couple of days ago when a photog asked the same question about two of his images... should he print 'em up or trash 'em.

My suggestion is applicable to your question: do one of two things...

(a) if the prints are for a "I like these" portfolio to show friends, family, fans, and other friends in the business, then by all means keep 'em if you like 'em.

(b) if the images are supposed to replace one of the "These Are My Absolute 10 Best Shots of All Time" then, I've gotta agree with Shadow... you've got better work in your online portfolio, and I assume in your own print portfolio...

IMHO the stark lighting of the first doesn't flatter you.. and in the second, there's not enough of you showing to make it "artsy".

neither of these images do much for me. you already have much better in your port. conceptually, i can see where the photographer was trying to go... i just don't think he or she got there.

FWIW, I agree with Shadow, Wayne, and Jimmy.

The harsh light in the first is not at all flattering to your face, so I prefer the second shot with its mystery. However, you have better shots in your portfolio already.

Thanks everyone for the honesty. Personally, I love the shots, but I wanted other perspectives and I didn't want people to tell me what they thought I wanted to hear. This is what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
