I was doing some work Saturday that involved a model on black background paper in a black outfit with a black guitar. I would really appreciate any information on how you would light something like this.

I wouldn't. I'd realize the image would be hellishly tough to light, and would STILL wind up as a weak image. As well as being impossible to make a good print of, and probably be very weak in electronic form as well. To add to your hassles here, you not only have three different blacks, but you ALSO have skin tones to worry about!

The usual way to light black on black would be to rimlight the subject and maybe have sharp light crossing it to show texture if there is texture to be shown.

Another way to light black stuff, especially high-tech metal, would be to have different color gelled lights coming in from sides. See, e.g., the catalogue for SUREFIRE brand flashlights.
