Hey all,

I've been shooting lately with a homemade 'ringlight' (gold umbrella with a cardboard black cutout to get the circular look).

Most of the comments I'm getting on it are that it is way too golden...what are your thoughts? General C&C welcome!
Thanks.

Yes, it appears that my wonderfully consistent and completely customer focused webhost is down again...try to avoid www.sultanhost.com if you can...

It all depends. It's too golden in my opinion for a one light source look or a straight forward print look.

I can see this in glamour nudes or lingerie in the middle of winter in the midwest to give light skin that warm tone.

In the second one I like better because it blends to me well with the warm earth tone background.

Andrew,

Like JT, I think the golden light is very appropriate on the second image... less so on the first.

Are you shooting RAW? It should be easy to bring the color temperature down a bit in your RAW converter... less easy to do in JPEGs (another reason to shoot RAW).

I like the 'look' of the light, by the way... ya oughtta post some shots and details of what/how you're doing it for some of the folks looking to homebrew their own system?

personally, i think the "doughnut" shaped reflection produced by a ringlight is its worst, most unnatural-looking, effect. and, no offense, but here you are trying to mimic exactly *that* aspect of using a ringlight.
