I really like the overall look. I think the eye makeup would be better if more subtle. you might even try one of those masks.

Paula,

I certainly hope you'll consider them constructive... that's absolutlely the spirit in which they're given.

First off, you're a lovely young lady, and your portfolio shows that you have a good range of 'looks' and variety. If you ever plan on coming south to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, please keep me in mind!

First, things that aren't under your control.... the biggest problem with this image is the cropping. That floating set of fingers on the left side of the image doesn't appear to be attached to your body. A better shot would be to have either (a) loosened up the crop a bit to include your right arm and hand and the handle of the sabre (thus removing the fickle flying fingers problem), or (b) cropped in tighter with the sabres crossed a bit closer to your face.

Secondly, the exposure is such that we've lost all detail in your blouse. It's a black blob. Ditto on the handles of the sabre.

The lighting on you is OK, except for the shadow on the right side (your right side) of your face. Distracting. The lighting on the wall coulda been a lot less intense to add to the feeling of an old castle's rock wall. There are ways to isolate a subject from the background without flooding the background with light.

Now, for things under your control... I'm not sure what you're trying to convey to me with your expression. It's almost like you're just waiting for something to happen. A bit more intensity is called for, I would think, when you're holding two instruments of death - c'mon, get a bit of fire in your expression, either passion or anger.

For example, this image in your portfolio , from the same shoot, has more intensity to it than the one you posted, and though it's in color, I think it conveys what y'all wanted to do better than the b&w one:
Secondly... the stuff coming out of the corners of your eyes - if it's war paint or a tribal kinda marking, it's too subdued. If it's supposed to be blood, it's too symmetrical. It's not clear, to me, what it is or what it's supposed to mean, and that makes it distracting.

All in all, it's on "ok" image... with a little work on both your parts, it could be a "knock it out of the park" kinda image!

That wasn't too mean, was it?

By the way.. the 'warm fuzzy' comment would've been: "Nice image - cute girl."

See, aren't you glad you asked?

This is Eva
