I am open to comments on this one. I used two Nikon Speedlights and a blue gel on the background one
.
The models name is Gina and my wife.

Thanks
Dana

Well since the model is your wife...and my Model is my wife....I guess its safe to critique this one...

#1 the wrinkled background in itself isnt asthetically pleasing..
#2 the lighting seems flat. no ratio in between fill and main..
#3 the positioning of her head in this pose is causing too many neck creases and a double chin effect..DeAnn and I fight this all the time...just watch those head tilts...have her start with her head straight up and slowly tilt it..you'll see the sweet spot.
#4 the dark circles under her eyes arent flattering.
#5 the focus seems really soft around the nose and eyes...
Hope I didnt shred this too bad....but I'd reshoot keeping these things in mind.
from one photog with wife, to another keep firing away, and dont get too frustrated...boy did I ever!!
Don

Don has done a good job of Critiqueing your post although I think the main problem is the power of the speedlights eneough to light the face but needs more spread to light the hair, the comment rergarding the creases in the neck is valid and means to shift the shooting position to hide the creases lovely smile and the red lipstick the background tends not to bother me if the light was left the same for the background and by upping the main the face is what would catch the eye.

Hi Dana...

The first thing that comes to mind is the fact that it is out of focus.
The second is the flat lighting. Try to figure out a way to get the flash off of the camera and try to soften it. You mentioned that you were using to "speedlights".. I believe that those are camera mounted type flashes. Perhaps until you get studio type strobes, you should concentrate on available light. The window on an overcast day can be the best friend of someone without a "softbox"!! Nice shot all and all, but just too flat IMHO.

Keep shootin' Tex

The image seems to be too flat (grey) - lacking contrast and color balance. Her pose creates an unessisary double chin and I would have tried to minimize the bags under her eyes with editing tools.
