All images in this series shot with Nikon Coolpix 8700 ISO 50. Key with 46" white shoot-through umbrella. Metered at 5.6/ 1 / 125th, shot at 4.6 with Circular Polarizer. Hairlight -1 stop and barndoored. Just a side note, you can make an excellent set of barn doors with a Gevalia coffee maker box! Just cut off the bottom section of the box and then trim the flaps to mimic the barn doors. Cut a hole for the reflector to fit in and then cover the whole thing with 3m heat shield tape and voila! The thing works beautifully with my Novatrons.

Well the pose looks a bit strained. The hand on hip looks oddly positioned. The shadows on the face are distracting the way they fall. The seeing bare strips of scalp make it look like the model is losing her hair. And I think this shot must have missed with the hairlight or is that bright spot near the very back of the hair the hairlight affect? Also the scarf would be better ironed.

Cheers,
rfs

I agree the scarf would have been better ironed, but due to time restraints not possible. These are only test shots anyway so it didn't really matter. I wouldn't be posting images a client paid for anyway. The "bright spot" near the back of her head is strands of dreadlocks that are bleached blond. Since the dreads are extensions that are joined to her existing hair, there's no way no scalp is going to show. Imagine having braids placed all around your head, some scalp is going to show even if it were just one braid. Thanks for taking the time to critique. I always apreciate input. Thanks for playing. Adam:

I like this image. A dark mood in medium to high key image--nice.

However; the blonde extensions and scalp from the "dreads" are distracting. See if you can burn them in so they aren’t so apparent.

The hand does look awkward but works in the overall contradictory context of the image. Dark model in a dark mood in high key, verticals & diagonals, a combination of plaids, prints & stripes all coming together for a nice image.

You know about the scarf. It’s the only thing not fixable.

Rick D.

Thanks Rick. I'm really digging a lot of your port. Jenna and I are planning some really sick stuff about 2 weeks from now. I can't wait. Like I told Sam (gevaundbeast) I'm building bamboo furniture now and finding out this stuff has the tensile strength of steel. This opens the door to my imagination, so watch out!
