Okay, I've got a few more shots ready to show of the lovely Maty...

#1: Nikon D100, 70-300mm f4-5.6 lens, ISO 200, f7.1 @ 1/125sec, one softbox high and from the right, feathered away from the backdrop

An attempt at a dramatic fashion look...

#2: Contax 645, 80mm lens, f4.0 @ 1/15sec, Kodak Tri-X 320 (E.I. 160) in Rodinal (1:50) for N+1 development, available light

Going for a softer, lower contrast look (even though I developed at N+1... the neg would've been really low contrast -- i.e. flat -- without it)...

Anything you see I shoulda done differently? Or anything you see I could/should change before printing?

Thanks for looking.

Sam,
Really like the lighting and the mood of #1.Very sophisticated feel to it. #2, there's something about the side of her face toward the light source that doesn't seem quite right, but I do like the pose and the shallow dof.
Nice work.

Thanks very much, Darrell. And I'm not totally sure about the face in #2 -- not saying it's not there, just that I'm not sure I see what you see. If you can pin down what it is please let me know. Maybe my retouching skills need work.

Sam,
I had to think about this one to try and figure it out. I played with your image, tweaked the levels and got something that appealed more to my taste. Then I re-read your original post and realized you had perfectly achieved what you set out to do; create a beautiful, low contrast image. It is the low contrast and the similar tones of her hair, face and whites of her eyes that caught my attention. My poor taste aside, you've created a very beautiful image.

Oh man from what I've seen here and your port, I think your taste is pretty darn good. Oh, and thanks again. But yeah I was originally going for an overall soft look to the image... in my mind it just seemed to fit better the mood I was attempting (I could be wrong, though ). Most of the darkest tones in the background ended up around Zone II (not a full black), and the white blanket in the foreground ended up, um, I think it was around Zone VII, if I remember correctly (it must've been, 'cause there's full texture there on the contact print). One of the main points was that I pre-visualized the background as having at least a sense of texture, to give a better sense of environment (as opposed to featureless black). However... I do see what you're saying about similar tonality in the hair, face and eyes, and I played with it again in PhotoShop, too... hmm, now you've got me wondering if my original version is too flat. This'll keep me up for hours.

Anyways, sorry to blab on about that... I could talk about this stuff forever. Thanks again Darrell!

Sam

P.S.: Sorry I forgot to mention last time, but that shot of Victoria is pretty wicked.
