The shot has possibilities but there are a few problem areas that need to be taken care of. First I see no reason to break the basic rule about chopping off the top of the head and the hair on the left. Sometimes severe cropping can be okay if it is warranted, but I don't think it works in this case, but instead distracts from the models beauty.

The biggest problem is the total lack of catch lights in the eyes. This makes the eyes look flat and dull and robs the image of its power to impact the user.

Also, the shot is either a bit oversharpened or you have too much jpg compression or both. I note the file size is a bit small for the resolution and so suspect that its more jpg artifacts that anything else. A shot this size would normally be about 60K with a better compression setting.

Cheers,
rfs

R_Frederick,
I appreciate your replies to my posts.
You nailed it on the catch lights being the biggest problem with the image.
I'll experiment with how I'm saving for the web too, I did not see that on my monitor. But we have different philosophies on cropping; I'm not one to follow subjective rules, and I'd wager that it's a rule you've broken a time or two as well.

Yes the cropping rules are made to be broken. But your example this time works because its a fashion shot (I'm using Rolando's defintion of if the model is not looking at you, then its fashion, and if she is then its glamour - not a 100% rule, but a workable assumption) and you've cropped to emphasize the dress. Your earlier shot was glamour and that makes it more about the model, and means its harder to break the basic cropping rules.
But you are right, it is very subjective.
As far as the save to web, if you use PS, then use the Save for Web Option and set the Quality to 80 which will give you about a 60k-70k file at 400x600. Keep the height to no more than 600 so that people don't have to scroll to see the whole image. That usually gets rid of any compression problems.

Cheers,
rfs
