This is another image from my first shoot with Yana. Please give me your comments / critique on this image. Suggestions on how I can improve appreciated. Lighting was from single strobe overhead shot into an umbrella.

Critiquing my own a bit here, does the shadow in her left eye detract from the image? Havent convinced myself if it looks ok, or if I should have used a reflector to put a little fill into the eye.

Thanks,
Dean

Any sort of reflector to pick up in the eye would be nice. Good work.

Agreed, interresting thread you started Don..... yup I see I cut off the fingers again( maybe that should be my calling card ) But, and I may be wrong ( naw, that would never happen) does it really detract, since it isnt the focal point of the image?

Wonder how the rest feel?

I would think a little more light in the eyes wouldnt hurt. The hands being cut off where they are also bothers me. As I follow the arms across it just leads me out of the image.

Thanks, I wish I would have included the hands in the shot.......better luck next time. Would the image be more pleasing if I were to crop some of the arm out, or would I still be in the same boat?

Thanks,
Dean

I like it. I would have liked to see all of her hands and maybe a little more of her stomach. But that's just me. I have been trying to get the same black and white you have accomplished. What did you do to get it that way?

Maybe so. If you were to bring the crop into just past her hair. I think it would change the whole feel of the image. I'd have added about 3 more inches of her torso, as well. But just my 2¢. I like the image a lot. No problem with the shadow on her eye, the reflection off the white of the eye is what I think makes that stand out.

This was a color image I desaturated in PS, and adjusted the levels to get the shadows to look like I wanted. Didnt do any fancy editing, still learning to use PS.
Hope this is what you were looking for.

That's the problem with PS, you could use it for 2 or 3 years and still be learning it. It does so damn much. Everytime I desaturate, my photos tend to get grainy. I've been using monochrome under channel mixer, but I am just not happy with the way it looks. Which levels do you adjust?
