I worked with this model on Saturday. She was awesome, I hope my images do her justice. If you're in Texas, you would do well to work with her. Found her on that other model place (#168847) and another local photog hooked me up with her.

Why the yellow background? For most viewers, a red teddy, and yellow background offends the eyes. I'll repeat an earlier comment I made today, keep it simple with a white background...black for more dramatic situations. Yellow hurts the eyes and becomes monotonous.

Here is black paper with white light...

Personally, I liked the yellow paper as it is not the same old thing. It was something different to try. I have black and white backgrounds, but everyone uses those as I have ad nauseum. As for posting the photos with the text of message, I attempted to do it, but it always seems to elude me. Anyway, thanks to anyone who posts comments, they are always helpful.

Great shot of Natalie. She's a hard worker and knows how to work it for the camera. Killer attitude, too. Always on. I had the pleasure of shooting her at Supershoots, San Diego, earlier this year.

I thought about trying a yellow b/g for a gal who wanted some colour but now you got me thinking....

OK, well you asked for it....

You did everything you could to make this model appear bigger/wider than she is. The 1st photo you have a complete profile of her torso making her appear very wide. You've competely centered her in the crop. Lookup negative space and how to pose a woman so as not to make her appear wide as you did.

2nd photo, due the crop at the knees makes her look amputated. In situations such as this, you should crop above the knees or shoot her entire body head to toe. In general follow the philosophy to crop above the joints (elbows and knees). Naturally there are exceptions to this rule. Follow the rules 1st then learn when to break them.

3rd image again, read about negative space and the cropping below the knees.

4th image since she is straight on you gave the widest possible appearance she could have. That usually isn't very flattering unless she is really skinny. Have her turn away from you about 45 degrees with her feet, then turn her hips towards you. This will slender out her hips and thighs.

Look at magazines, other photos here, just keep shooting and posting for comments. That is the way you will learn.

Here is negative space.

Here is cropping above the knees.

number 2 stood out to me, because the chair style doesnt seem to match the clothing! maybe a different chair? a white BG could have also made it match more. just an idea. great work all around. beautiful model.

I recently purchased some gels to try and add some variety to my BG's. I haven't perfected them yet, but I do like the difference they can make. I agree with Bonner though on this color. When choosing a gel, we have to make sure the colors compliment each other and don't compete. White and Black are "simple" backgrounds, I agree, but some coloring of the BG I think can be effective if correctly matched...
