My First Time!

Okay here is my first attempt at light from a window only
I shot this at 1/20th at f2.8 ISO 200.
Comments and tips for making this a better shot are most welcome!

Well, you've discovered the wonders of natural light. Experimenting using natural light alone can produce some tremedous results like what you have here. What I like is the more serious feel which has resulted in a sexier mood than some of your other work. The fact that this isn't on a seamless background adds a realistic feel to the image, which enhances the mood(just my personal preference, but the Doug Lester type stuff is one of the few places I like to see seamless). The depth of field is pretty good, since the blinds are just into the blurred area. The shadows give something to the image, but I don't know how to describe it--depth, mood, drama, shape...

What I don't like is how the night gown is laying across Deanne's (correct me on the spelling) midsection causing her to look larger than she is, just pulling this back a bit would help. Perhaps by bringing the left leg up closer to her chest she could accentuate her curves.

Very nice, and try more stuff outside the studio.

Thanks Kent...your right about the gown in "DeAnns" midsection....I paying some much attention to the..camera settings and the tripod....only thing I managed to see besides the light..was her expression...... its a real learning experience to SEE everything in the image.... But I'll get there....
P.S. I like my seamless! especially since Im limited on Decor, Very basic home.

You and DeAnn have way too much free time. I'm jealous.

Great shot. I love the mood. As someone already mentioned it is more realistic then your studio shots and I Like it. The only suggestions are:

1. The gown. Not just the mid section but along the hip and leg should have been spread out more evenly. It looks too lumpy. if it is too long you might consider folding it up on the inside to make it shorter.

2. DeAnn's right hand doesn't look natural to me and stands out more then I like.

I can relate to what you said about paying attention to all the details. I haven't got it yet either. I always find something I don't like in my shots. It's easy being an arm chair critique after the fact [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] . But practice only makes us better.

Louis! we have a winner!! thats the first thing I saw that bothered me..the hand has a perspective that makes it seem larger than it is....and I noticed its sharper in focus than her face.....

I like the idea. Besides the info already given, I would have closed the blinds directly behind her. The light is a bit bright and distracts you from her for a moment. When you tire of shooting her, just send her my way so I can shoot her in my studio. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Thank you for the advice Paul...this was my first with a window shoot or shooting indoors at all without the help of strobes....so any advice is good advice!!
Now as far as me ever getting tired of shooting her? NO WAY!! But on the other hand...she would just LOVE to shoot with you!!! and Forthworth is only 6 hours away! Im sure you'll be reading a response from her really soon!
