Hi all,

I decided to take some time for myself and I went out shooting in town by my house. The sky was very nicely blue in many other pictures but I screwed something up in my exposure setting and ended up with white sky. How can I put a nice blue sky back in this image?

Good day!

Mike

Make a shadow mask to hold bridge detail and blue mask in the sky highlights.
Use masking to select only the are wanted and merge the two layers.

I'm lazy so I'd just do a gradient tool with a light opacity.

One thing you may want to try is alpha channels. I tried it on your image (hope you don't mind )...

I selected all, copied and pasted into a new alpha channel. Once you have your channel, you'll need to adjust it (in this case I just bumped up the contrast) to make the bridge (and anything else you don't want having blue over it) black and the sky white. Made a selection from the channel, and then used a gradient (blue to transparent) for the sky. Whole thing took maybe five minutes. (Of course, to fine-tune everything will probably take longer )

Hope this helps!

Hey Mike, Sam did a great job with the picture. Follow his directions, then while you're playing with the sky, try something different to see what you think.

I added a Texas sky to this and while it isn't the greatest example the picture sure looks a lot different.

Hi Marty. I love that sky!!!! I do need to play with that a bit. What I did was to create a layer and then use the gradient tool but I phuked it all up because I am not very good at PS yet. I do have CS now and a book big enough to use as an anchor but still need to delve into it.

Back to the drawing board. Thanks again.

Good day sir!

Hi Sam,

I tried something with a new layer and the gradient tool but I just don't know enough about PS yet to be effective with it. When I got done with it, it was so screwed up that I trashed the whole image. At least I'm learning what DOESN'T work...hehehe

Thanks for your instruction. I'll work on it some more.

Good day!
