Hi all,

Chrissy and I were playing around in my studio awhile back and this is one of the shots we came up with. Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Lighting was two Speedotron strobes shot at 1/4 power via a large softbox to my left and an umbrella to my right (because I don't have a second soft box). Nikon D70 at 1/125th and f8 I think. Lens was a 24-70mm zoom. I don't have a boom stand and couldn't get a decent hairlight to save my life. She does have on a black hat that blends with the background. Sorry about that. When I sell a kidney and can afford a boom stand, you can be sure I'll have one.

Good day!

Mike

Mike,..You could try one of those "round spring clamp-on shop lights" like hardware stores carry, with a 100 watt bulb for a hair light,...they sell for just a few bucks. I use one, but now I have an electronic photo flash bulb with optical slave sensor, in it. I made a snoot for it, and I have to diffuse the light (because it's too bright) with coffee can plastic lids and/or coffee filters. And yes,it fires everytime.
Of course, if you don't drink coffee at your house, your out of luck

I did the same thing with a black hat...I managed to get it seperate from the background..but it ended up looking like a flat hat with no dimensions..it was flat like a cartoon hat. was poor lighting on my part.... keep trying! keep posting.
