I had an opportunity this weekend to try this. I love this type of photography, but had been un successful with lighting in the past. Thanks to a patient model and more room to place the lighting. I am pretty happy with these. Comments and suggestions welcome.

Thanks
Rick

Takes a little time, and a little patience

nice to know some people still are not afraid of the dark

The composition is great. But, it appears that the highlights were too muted in photoshop which means that you don't have a full tonal range. This clipped tonality is most evident on the left shin.

I think that if you showed more highlights and contrast with a full tonal range, you would still have a successful low key image.

See how in Jason's image there is the full range of tones from white to black? Granted that there is not much of those middle-grays because of his composition, but they can still be found. Good luck and keep trying.

I agree, the tonal range seems off. I also think there is too much negative space above. Here is one of my shots of Susan Schmidt to illustrate one method of the bodyscape low key image.

Cheers,
rfs

Very nice. I especially like the color version. You might want to try NeatImage to clean up the noise if it is there in the original.

NIcely photographed. I think either version could be a killer image, but as others noted, both are lacking in contrast. The pose and lighting are quite good, as is the model. All that's needed to bring out what is actually there is to go into P'shop and in 'levels' use the slides to bring up some contrast. Both wil be killer images!

My stuff

Thanks to all for your replies, comments and examples. I will keep working on these images with your suggestions in mind. Doug, I received your book on Saturday. I actually used it as a quick reference when setting up this shoot. I look forward to reading it in it's entirety

Thanks Again!
