I don't do alot of B/W. This is a conversion from color in P/S.

I like the overall affect. I like the softness of the image. I like the look of the model.

I am however having a problem with the whole thing as an image. I can't put my finger on it, and have thought about it alot. I have tried sharpening, contrast, curves, etc.etc. Nothing seems to help..

Any thoughts, or is this just one of those for the round file?

Thanks

Well, I don't really care for the sun-spots on her face, other than that it's not bad, her facial expression/mouth could be better. Don't get me wrong, she is a great looking Model, keep shooting...

To me, it needs a levels adjustment...the blacks are not even close to being black.

Jason's right. I played with it for about 30 seconds in Photoshop using just levels. I think I've got the effect you are desiring.

Just move the triangles in the levels adjustment to the edges of you histogram. For this one I moved the dark triangle to the left edge where the histogram starts upward toward the center.

I use Photoshop 5.5, so I hope its the same in the version you use.

I'm not sure how you did this conversion, but it seems a little flat to me. Try starting again with the color version and use the channel mixer. I tend to use a lot of the green channel, as the red is very flat and the blue often has odd highlights in it. The sum of the three channels ought to be 100 (or close to it). After that maybe boost the contrast a bit.

There are also some B&W actions available on the 'net if you do some searching. Some of them are even pretty good.

I like the full lips on her. Keep playing with it.

just a little curves adjustment. your image lacks contrast. however, i don't recommend adjusting contrast via the brightness/contrast dialog. it's pretty useless.
