Here is a gallery of some shots from this past weekends trip to Ocean City, MD.

Please review & critique, I've only been at this since December and trying to learn.

Thanks,

Just family pics with a point and shoot digital.

In November I went on a photoshoot with her and had a blast, so in December I bought a 20D, some "L" glass, & some AB studio lights and started learning. I also bought a G5 and started working with Photoshop CS around the same time.

This shoot was by far my best work to date.

What ya think? No one is saying much, so I'm taking that as a good thing. I used to get blasted for flat lighting when I first started.

I like them.
I'm probably not even to where you were in November as far as shooting people creatively.
I've been doing news and feature photos for about 10 years. And actually won a regional award for one of my feature shots but mostly grand openings and grip and grins for the last several years.
I'm trying to change that though.

Bearing in mind I'm not an expertly trained eye. I only see one thing that really really bothers me.
In one of the wooden bench images 40789969 I can see the line left by the bra.
Otherwise I think they are some very nice shots on the whole.

I went through them last night, but was too tired to respond. Nice work, and great potential for both of you. I absolutely love this style of work and you two are doing it well. Keep practicing and posting.

ps. I'm a bit jealous of the 20D and especially the L lenses.

BUsy busy guy, but I want to help you. First, let me start with a kudos. No, I'm not saying your photography is fantastic, but I am saying kudos for trying. You're gonna make a huge leap by listening to what credible people have to say and applying it.

NOw, on to the photography. I don't normally offer critiques of images posted on another site. I figure you've got a port here, so use it. But, I'm a sucka for a guy using a 20D, AB's, and L glass.

http://www.pbase.com/bminard/image/40845411 - This is the image I am choosing to critique.

First the concept is nice. I like the idea of nude relaxing at evening. I can tell you used the sun as your main light source. But the shadows are especially harsh in late afternoon lighting. It's really hard to utilize late afternoon lighting without a reflector or some kind of artificial assistance. You could have done one of two things. Either have her drop her right leg or bounce a little light in there so the shadow isn't so harsh. She's got great definition in the abs, but that harsh shadow just ruins it. Also have her get some the weight off her left arm. When she leans on it and puts weight on it, the area near her shoulder just balloons up.

Mike

Thanks Wade !!!

Yeah the 20D rocks, and I love the lens !!! I was thinking of going with an MKII and just one or two lens, but decided to get the 20D and like 4 lens instead ;-) Glad I did !!!

The outdoor shots were either done with my 24-70 2.8L or 70-200 2.8 IS L, and the indoors were either the 24-70 2.8L, or 17-40 L.
