Here are a few shots from yesterday's shoot at Alki Beach (shot on D100 with 50mm lens). We were going for a more "catalogue" casual look. #1 image we did a sort of "A&F" effect by washing out the colors. Which one would be best suited for portfolio use? Feedback & suggestions appreciated! Photographer is Damien Jones, model is Jamie Rose.

As I begin to type this, I think to myself, "Tread lightly, Mike." I don't really think any of them should be added to anybody's portfolio. Not only is there no catalog feel, but not a single image flatters the model, clothing, hair, or makeup or shows the photographer's best work (I hope). It looks like your heart was in the right place, but the desired result just wasn't acheived.

Sinc you're the model, I really don't want to get into the technical aspects of the photographs. As far as what you could have controlled, the flyaways (blowing hair) really hurt the images.

Now that you've been knocked down, go out and try again. I've seen your portfolio and know you can do better.

Mike

I think #2 would be my pic of the three. #1 has a nasty green cast to it that I just can't get past. The partial desaturation is OK, but the color shift doesn't suit you at all.

#3 has so much curve in your back that it's almost disturbing. I think it makes your body look shorter than it really is.

When I look at the 2nd pic, my eyes are immediately drawn to your face, then they explore from there. That's the effect I always look for in a pic like this.

That's all I got.

Well said Mike... I was trying to come up with a way to say the same thing but everything I came up with sounded too harsh...

To agree with others, #2 is the best.

I don't like either effect on #1. What does it look like plain? If the lighting is right I like that pose the best.

No, green is a bad color for people with pale skin, as the skin tends to take on a more yellowish tint..

Mike is the man ...chalk these up to practice and try again...

Hi Jamie,

Unfortunately, Mike is right...although...one thing I will say in defense to the photog is problem number one (and biggest in my book) is the fact that he shoots with the d-100. I shot that camera for 9 mths b4 I switched to fuji. I wont go into the tech aspects either..but the d-100 is already bad to begin with. I dont believe any of them should be added either. They do neither of you justice. Sorry bout the bad new...

Ciao
Michael
