Is the hair light too soft? (I used soft boxes this time and think I need to go back to grids)
Is there anything I could have done to make this shot better?

Casey,

I like the image as is, and don't think the hair light is too soft - it's a nice portrait and the softness of the hair light, combined with the blur on her hair and areas below the chest, adds to the overall effect.

If that's what you were looking for, that is.

Now, if you were looking for the 'halo' effect by a strong hairlight, grids woulda been the way to go. Just depends on what you were looking for.

So, when ya coming over this way? Next workshop is next Sunday, 3/13 if you can make it.

Me? I can hardly wait till Summer!

Wow! I love it! Would love to hear what your setup is for that shot. Same set up used for the shot from your portfolio "I think its my best". I really love the look of it.

I don't like the pose that well, the hands are flat and taking up too much of the photo. The lighting seems to harsh for my liking, and it tends to make her forehead seem square. I would have try for a little more lighting from the side for more depth. This is just what my untrained eye sees.
