These are from my second effort at nudes in the studio. I used two 4-foot umbrellas place at waist height, to the sides and slightly behind the model, no fill, and a louvered softbox on a boom behind and above her for a couple shots with hair lighting.

to access the gallery, you need to enter the password "clubra" at the prompt.

Howard,
Wonderful shots of a beautiful model. The color images are more pleasing to me; they have a nice warmth. The BW images seem flat. It also appears as if you might have tried to whiten her eyes in the BW images, seems unnatural.
Thanks for sharing these images. Being new I really appreciate the information on the lighting setup. Gives me something to think about for the future.
Best Regards,
Darrell

I like some of the posing but would have loved to see a little more light in the eyes so that they had that sparkle to them.

"Artistic Nude" is open for interpretation but I feel that it is often better to depersonalize (if there is such a term) the images by showing less of the models face and facial expression (or lack thereof) and concentrating more on shape and form as you have tried here. Your soft side lighting is certainly a step in that direction.

The placement of your light in an "artistic" mode is strictly up to your artistic tastes and your vision. For my personal taste I prefer the use of one light and I direct that light so the shadows will fall where I want them to according to my vision.

I'm sure you've done your researchb but check out Doug Lesters portfolio for a variety of lighting techniques.

Rick D.

Two lights. Main light (soft box) just to camera left 6' up and 25º down angle and hair light with grid 9' up and 45º down angle. Due to the difference in texture of the two lights sources, there is a 1/2 stop differewnce between the main and Hair light. There was no fill or reflector used to the right of the model.

Thanks. After some reflection I agree with you, and in fact I removed some images and added others to the gallery so they're all consistently without eye contact or emphasis on the face.

I did leave one in colour though. It seems to work slightly better that way.

I guess the difference between glamour and figure is whether the model looks at the camera and smiles or not.

I've also heard a quip that the difference between porn and art is colours vs. black and white

The images are well done, but the convergence of shadows over the model's nose (especially the color photos) bothers me. Perhaps a hint of fill, just to even it out, without emphasizing the face may be helpful. Either that, or pull your umbrellas back even more.
