Poor makeup. The lighting is a bit weak overall (too contrasty & poor ratios/placement) and the hair in the second & third shot is really blown out. Overall, the lighting just isn't cutting it. It's worsened by the makeup. Sorry to be harsh. Rolando has some good lighting tips under the "Tips" section of this website that will be helpful.

Remember, that the photo is only as good as its weakest link. A good makeup artist is essential. Then, you get the light right....and it's all good.

You need to learn some manners. There is a way to offer opinions without being rude. Try it.

It's a critique. It's related to the photograph only. The makeup and lighting are poor. He needs to use a better makeup artist (if a makeup artist was used at all) and he needs to learn better lighting technique. Rolando's "Tips" section has a lot of helpful information that he can use.

I could just blow smoke and tell him it's wonderful, but it sounds like he is interested in a real critique.

I'm sure everyone has the ability to view your portfolio and my portfolio and decide on whether my advice is valid.

You, however, have directly insulted me personally. However, it isn't relevant in any way.

Pretty model. The light could use some adjustment in the placement, particularly to put more of it on her face more so on the third picture than the others. Skin tones seem to vary a little and it may be the makeup as mentioned. There are also two different size crops in the four pictures. Same expression in the first three of the pictures also. Also if you would like to post larger pictures which are easier to critique, you can use www.imageshack.com to get them up in size for use on Garage Glamour.

I never said your comments weren't valid. I happen to agree with you. There are, however, ways to give comments and not be rude and harsh. Loose the chip on your shoulder and get rid of the attitude....relax. You wouldn't want me to blow sunshine up your skirt...would you?

Good critique, I think. I often use the work of others and what people say about them as a learning tool. Don't need the nicey-nice so as not to ruffle feathers (it get's too confusing, as in "What did he really mean by that"). Unfortunitly I don't have anything to add, which makes my entry not very useful to anybody.

Hey, I appreciate everyones opinions, and will work off them. I've got thick skin and an open mind to constructive criticism. No one used any four letter words describing anything, so my ego isn't destroyed, I'm ready for the next round. And, no, there was no make-up artist. Having said that, I was more interested in the lighting issues to begin with. Thaks.

Steve, I happen to agree with you, being a newbie, politeness is a critique is important to me, not to discourage people away from trying, experimenting and learning.
Not taking sides here. Just saying Harsh remarks could send a person the wrong idea and turn them off from great sites like this one.

You can be honest and still give some helpful tips on correcting what you don't like.

I think a critique should be accompanied by an "I would've done this..."

That way we can all learn.

I could sit here and say something bad about a lot of the pictures posted here, but I don't because I can't always offer an "I would've done this..."

IMHO it's a good start and I only hope when I do decide to post that I have something at least this good.
