I had a little time last night, and got my wife to agree, so I thought that I would try a few pictures for my first post on GG. I'm looking to learn so please help me out. The camera was a 10 D, EF 50mm f/1.4. Thank you in advance.

Diesel, very good first post! You have a lovely wife, but the only thing wrong is that she needs to turn a little my way and step about 900 miles to the south (my direction) to be in front of my camera. I really enjoy doing the photos of my wife, I couldn't ask for more. She always wanted to be a model but never got to travel that path. Thanks again.

This is your first picture? Or just the first one you've posted. You did a great job and have a great subject. Do you have a studio? What kind of lighting did you use for the shot?

I like the playful pose with the strap of her dress. Her hand does look a little awkward though.

I'm a little concerned about her right eye being in the shadow of her hair. Maybe turn her a little more toward the camera.

I don't have a studio, just my living room. For lighting I used a photoflex octodome as my source and a photoflex silverdome nxt for my fill light, coming down from head level. I used a large gold reflector on the oposite side of the source light for a little contrast on the fill side.

I have never photographed anyone but my wife, and just started recently photographing her. I'm still learing and need lots of improvement, but it's a fun and I really enjoy it. Thanks again for the ideas I agree about the shadow from the hair. I hope to move to the garage as a studio or something with more room, it's hard to get the angles you need in the house.
