Is it me (or my monitor), but isn't it too yellow for sepia. I always thought sepia was more bronze/bown tone. I have attached one of mine. I may be all wet here.

Don't know about it being too yellow, looks pretty good to me. The only thing that doesn't fit to me (at first glance) is the shoes - they don't seem to fit with the feel of the image.

The combination of the sepia, the handrail of the stairs and that not-quite-to-the-edge carpet reminds me of a Victorian era house/photo (Could have the era wrong here, not much good with modern history). Which is cool. The platform shoes just kinda clash with that feel for me. I guess changing shoes is pretty hard post shoot though..

All that said, i'm a fan!

se·pi·a (n.)

1.
1. A dark brown ink or pigment originally prepared from the secretion of the cuttlefish.
2. A drawing or picture done in this pigment.
3. A photograph in a brown tint.
2. A dark grayish yellow brown to dark or moderate olive brown.

okay... here's a couple of other tries, that is, two different approaches. (one using the channel mixer and the other using the duotone adjustment.) i think i like the one where i used the channel mixer. i didn't add noise to either of these.

channel mixer--

duotone--

yeah, the shoes are definitely out of place if you look at it as a period shot. this was shot on a set at a studio during a video production. the stairs are indeed victorian. they were just there, leading nowhere, and not really connected to, or part of, a larger set. nothing in the video was shot on these stairs, i simply shot there cuz i was in a rush and there wasn't anywhere else to quickly set up some lights and shoot the girl. by the way, i re-PS'd the sepia tint and you can see the results in my response to vpsteve's critique.

Well I don't know about being "right", was just an observation. I like the second image better now...the first on...not so much. I love the dictionary quote...it's classic! You rock.

Victorian set, what a guess! For a quick location I reckon they're pretty awesome. Purdy girl too.

I see what vpsteve meant by too yellow now. I like the redone ones better but i MUCH prefer the chanel mixer one. The other one seems too pale to me.

Hey Jimmy:

I love the set, pose and the model but I can't say I like the color. I saw the other post under vpsteve but think that's a little light on the sepia. When I tone my b/w's I use Color Balance and adjust the midtones to: +45red and -40blue. This gives me a brown with a touch of red.
