I had to post a photo today to get the year started right. I'm sooo far behind allready with last year's backlog of photos....but it's all good...

Let me know what you think of this photo of Hillary. She's great to work with.

Happy New Year to all!!!!

Luis

LOVE THAT PIC!

Questions:
1. What did you use for wind? (My guess... a leaf blower)
2. What was lighting? (My guess... 30 degree grid, high camera left; 10 degree grid for hairlight, camera right, behind model)
3. What did you do in Photoshop? (I have no idea.)
4. Is she experienced or beginner? (My guess... experienced)

Thanks for sharing.

I don't think he used a fan, looks more like she flipped her head up.
That's my guess anyway.

Hey Bro.

I lived in Salt Lake on Oahu for 1.5 years quite a while ago and worked at Makapuu Point. Loved it and still miss it.

Thanks for the complement. To answer your questions:

1. No leaf blower. I had this idea and Hillary was very patient with me. She would bend forward and let her hair hang nice and straight. At the count of three she would quickly raise her upper body and head and her hair would fly over her head. It took several shots to get a good one. As you could imagine her hair didn't always go where we wanted.

2. I took in Nov at RG's Philly workshop and unfortunately they weren't my lights. As I recall we used dynalites with softboxes at approximately 45 degree angles. Only the softbox on camera left had either a 20 or 30 degree grid. The hair light was an Alien Bee with a 10 degree light if memory serves.

3.I always try to get the best shot I can in the camera and minimize the amount of PS. In PS I used Camera raw and did a very minor adjustment in the exposure, contrast and shadows. I then used unsharp mask to do a little sharpening on her eyes, lips and metal parts of her outfit. I then used a little Guassian blur to smooth out any complexion problems on her face. Lastly, there was a missing "V" section in her hair that I cloned in.

4. Hillary is experienced. You can see more of her work at:Hillary

Here's another shot of Hillary.

Dave,

You got it. I had her flip her head up.
