Here is a photo of one of the band members from last Friday's show. The red is NOT Photoshop. The stage lights were choreographed and so I grabbed this shot when the red lights came on. Personally, I really like it. Anyone else care to comment?

Shot leaning against a pillar on the dance floor, hand-held, 1/15th of a second, 70-200mm lens set to 70mm. How it came out as sharp as it did without camera shake is beyond me. It's certainly not something I'll probably be able to do again... I think the shake may be masked by the amount of red in the photo but it works for me. Hell, even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. Good day!

Mike

Works for me, but just a little too much red for my liking, but I know one can't control the lighting to ones taste at a live venue.

Looks good, Mike.

And the shake will diminish with practice, promise. Until you reach my age, when it exponentially increases until it permanently goes away again.

I like it a lot.. I think the red color is an essential part of this one..

As for camera shake, you can lightly press the lens against the pillar to help.. or use someones shoulder..

Nice shot Mike. Venue lighting is always a challenge to work with.
Here's one I got two weeks ago.

Great shot, Paul!! Nice gee-tar too. Those things are sweet but weigh a ton.

At the show Friday night I shot almost 300 or so shots I think. I just finished editing them all for the CD I'm making for the band. I have about 135 keepers and that's not too bad of a ratio considering the environment. A think a 40-50% "keeper" rate is pretty good. And now I've been hired to produce two 20x30 collages of all the band shots I've done to hang in this particular bar. Not sure how much I'm going to charge but it will certainly be interesting to put it together.

Good day!

Hi Israel,

Yes, I was relying heavily upon the pillars for stability but the place was jammed solid and I couldn't stand anywhere for more than about a second and a half before being nudged by a dancer or something. hehehe All in all though I was happy with the amount of shots I was able to salvage for the band.

I am looking at a monopod right now. Very, very nice indeed. It has a ball head and will support up to 15 pounds and collapses to about 16 inches or so and will extent to 72 inches. I think it's polycarbon or some such material and so not heavy at all. It's a drag schlepping my 40-pound tripod (well, not quite 40 pounds but it feels like that after hiking with it for a mile).

Back to the task at hand of making the collage for the bar. They want a 20x30 collage to hang on the wall there. Actually, they want two of them. Fun, fun and getting paid for it as well! Woo Hoo!

Good day sir!

Thanks, John. I don't do caffeine at all and I don't drink so I'm hoping that my stability will follow me well into my old age. So far so good. I'm 39 years old and still steady as a rock but even rocks move when bumped into or kicked around (like on a dance floor...hehehe).

I'm looking at a new monopod right now. It's super nice! Polycarbon or something like that and will support up to 15 pounds. It's also very compact when collapsed (something like 16 inches I think) and it will extend to 72 inches. It has a ball head and a trigger handle. Not cheap though....jeez.

Well, back to the computer. Lots of work to do and no time to do it.

Good day sir and thanks again!

It is very red but I really like the effect. The thing is, ALL of the lights in the place turned red at this particular moment so regardless of what I did (short of firing my flash and ruining the mood), it was going to turn out red. Those stage lights sure make for some interesting shots though.

Good day sir!
