I sometimes have problems deciding which color matts to use around pictures. I know that for Galleries it seems to be basically white as well as for contests. But for matting and selling to the general public I feel that more than white would be what people might want. Which matting do you think works better for this photo and also how do you decide what colors to use when matting your pictures. The white matt picture has a black around the outer edge so you can see the white better.

Black's nice.

What's your opinion on gray?

I think grey makes the picture dull. I think it tones down the colors. But that is just my opinion.

I prefer the black. For some reason makes me focus more on the photo rather than outside of it.

Of course I want people looking at the photo. It is written and you see it a lot that galleries expect the matting to be white. I see black and white photos with white mattings a lot. Just trying to get ideas of how each photographer does their photos. I sometimes pick other colors as you can see in this photo which is actually matted this way and hanging in my studio. $49.9 per gallon. but with that I think you should use a tattered look to the photo.

The eye goes to bright then dark - you want the eye to not be distracted

the skin tones of the above mat dont draw the eye the way the white does

if the mat was on a white wall in a gallery - but here the ey goes to the
brilliant white
