I'm curious what some of the photographers I've come to admire think of my first post anywhere ever. I just love those blue eyes and even though I focused on them they seem to be a little soft especially in the reduced version. Maybe I released the shutter release button while recomposing, I considered sharpening them but decided to just post as shot. I could find other things to nit-pic but that's your role so what do you think.

Ken its not a bad shot but what I would have done to improve the image... I'd have removed her jewelry. The watch and necklace as unnecessary distractions. Also her right arm disappearing at the wrist.

If you have others from the series you should post them.

Thanks for critiquing

Hasta
Thanks for taking the time to post. I definately agree on the hand disapearing and it was on my improvment list as well. I have to admit I didnt really notice the jewlery as my eye is almost always draw to the eye first, but now I see the watch as a major distraction. I have a few other improvments but if no one else sees them I"ll just keep them to myself and do better next time.
Thanks again
Ken

The focus as is seems to be at the eyes. I believe an overall sharpening of the image would help. Lovely model. I agree the watch abd the crop are a slight bother but I understand fully that you were working on the eyes and her look. Good work, keep posting.

Others have noted some of the problems. The background does not work well with the subject. There are distracting elements there. It would be nice if they were either blurred or cropped out. You've already cropped so tightly that a little more might have helped in that regard. There is also a black line to the right of the model's head (on the background) that appears to grow out of her head. I'm not sure on the focus. I almost think the sharpest part is the fabric of her bra. The arrangement of the model also tends to make her head look a little large for her body. That is always a problem with this type of pose.

Cheers,
rfs

Thanks Mike
I appreciate your input. Looking at the original image her hair is razor sharp and it is easy to follow every strand, but in the reduced version it looses a lot of detail. Looks like some sharpnening after save for web is in order. Your not specific about the crop do you think it is to tight, if so the reason is to get rid of clutter in the background, ugly night stand and bed.
Thanks again.

Thanks to you also. You point out some things that I missed and can improve on in PS, the line coming out of her head is actually the shadow of a white pillow on white linens, before the crop you could tell it was a pillow, and the trunk of an artifical tree on the left, both items I will work on. I didn't notice the head proportion but now that you mention it, dang, can't fix that in PS.
Not to be a suck up but you guys all have awsome work.

you're right that she has great eyes. i like the image except for three things: the bracelet on her left wrist grabs attention away from those killer eyes, her right arm looks amputated as her hand has sunk into the bed, and i think i would have cropped it tighter and not left that 'dead' space on the right side of the image.

Ken,

Great post. I love the eyes with the blonde hair and the angle of the photo. The feedback of others regarding the jewelry, cropping, etc. are good suggestions. The shot and feedback to it have been beneficial to me as I have just begun to post as well. Attached is one shot from my portfolio. I look forward to seeing more of your shots as you add to your portfolio.
