Please critique this image of Angie

This was shot with the D70 set at ISO 1600. I converted to b+w using 2 color adjustment layers (great technique, btw!). Her eyes have NOT been hyper-sharpened. I did touch up a very very wee bit on the iris. Okay, that's enough apologetics. Critique away!

There is a really great B&W action over on Adobe's site : http://share.studio.adobe.com/axBrowseProduct.asp?p=2 Called D-Max and it's free. I should warn you that the above link my not work if you haven't signed up for Adobe's Studio Exchange. (Also Free) It's a great source for help and goodies.

Hmm...479 people are too afraid to upset you.

I certainly don't intend to upset you, but I don't like it.

Here's why.

I can't tell if part of the image (upper right quadrant) has been gone over with a surface grinder, or if there's something else that is making her hair appear to be crosshatched in that section. That's distracting (and a bit confusing).

The rest of her body is not as shiny as her left shoulder and outer pec region.

I'm not sure if her shirt is wet, or just really tight and sheer.

She's certainly a cutie, and is most definitely working for you, but on my monitor, the image just looks kinda...I dunno...Flat...

Just my 2 cc's

Hi Ed,

I happen to like the image. Here is my immediate impression of what the image holds for me. The "cross sectioning" of her hair that Jon mentioned appeared to me immediately as water and I think her left hand supports that. It's obviously wet, as is her shirt. If it was sheer, I don't think it would have "stuck" to her chest like it does in the shot. Her right shoulder is also obviously wet and the tile behind her says "shower" to me. Now, the lack of contrast off the water in relation to the rest of the image can certainly be misleading but once a person looks around at the other clues, it becomes quite clear.

What would make the image stronger in my ever so humble and uninformed opinion is to have all of her hair wet and not just the ends on her left shoulder. Her eye contact and lips slightly parted make for an erotic, "join me for some good, clean fun" atmosphere. I wonder if you might share the color version. Overall, the image just works for me. Thanks for sharing, sir!

Good day!

Mike

Ed,

I like it. I would wet the hair to support the water falling down. Otherwise, it looks like the image is messed up.

Ed,

This image really doesn't do anything for me. The contrast is a little flat and the tight crop doesn't do anything for me.

Also, the inclusion of the shower spray in the photo doesn't add anything to this image for me. Perhaps if you could make out the water spray or maybe if more than her shirt was wet, the water would work for me.

Her expression and her eyes look good; however, the crop is a little tight for my liking. Although, I've seen it done for advertising and editorial work, I personally don't like cropping through the subject's forehead.

Are there other shots from this session that have a little more snap?

Michael

essentially, i'll say the same thing i posted to someone else in another thread: Nice shot/model. But where's your blacks? Your black ain't black and neither is your white (i mean your whites aint white, not your whites ain't black... uhhhh... you know what i mean.) Set the levels right and that pic will come alive.
