Hola, mis amigos! I need your help ... desperately.

First, I know that shot number one is awful, for about a dozen reasons, but it lets me ask a question. If you have a picture of your subject drinking something (e.g. the glass of plum wine), how can you prevent the reflection of the glass on her face (other than PhotoShopping, of course).

I'm somewhat more pleased with the other two shots, but give me your worst on them, too.

Thanks, CC

Perhaps, Gekkeikan is paying you to push their cheap plum wine?

Perhaps, Gekkeikan is paying you to push their cheap plum wine? Or is your client the pretty red head? :P

I'm not sure what you want to be the focus in the image. If this is supposed to be a portait, I usually go for a minimalist style vs. a more environmental approach. I would get rid of any background distractions (the trees and props) and just shoot your model. Try shooting with telephoto lens instead of a wide angle to isolate the model from the environment.

If you have interaction with props, I would match the background, props and clothing more carefully. The sunglasses, and oriental top just don't seem to go well...

BTW - if you are looking to get rid of the shadows from the wine glass across the face just reposition the model or get a reflector to bounce some light back on her face.

Aloha from Hawaii,
Michael

I have to bribe my wife with food and liquor to get her to sit still for a photo session!

Believe it or not, the Gekkeikan was the only plum wine for sale in a Texas town of more than 100,000 souls. I looked everywhere. The Dragon Roll wasn't very good, either.

I didn't intend for the focus of the picture to be either the wife or the wine. I like my pictures to be a framework on which the viewer can construct a story. "Why is the pretty redhead eating sushi on an antique table sitting in a pasture?" Every viewer will construct a different mental story to explain the picture.

As cute as my wife may be, a picture of her is just a picture of a pretty gal. The same shot in the local sushi restaurant doesn't seem odd, so the viewer doesn't have any reason to think about it.

Kinda dumb, but I enjoy it.

CC -Your a lucky man. I can't get my wife to pose for pictures even if I bribe her with a fancy dinner out AND a babysitter. That being said, I like your description of what were trying to achieve and why you took the picture. I find that information as important to learning about photography as the watt seconds and f-stops. I wish more postings would include some of the "why". Thanks again.

what luck you have to have a beautiful wife you can shoot!Ya' always go to be careful shooting up on women. She also looks a little stiff. I think you need a ladder and a longer focal length will help. Watch your background. I think the tree is killing your shot.
