This is my first post and also my first try at moving from Wal-Mart style pictures of my family to glamour style photography. Please let me know what you think.

Nice first post. In the first pic the models right arm looks a little awkward. Find myself staring at the hot spot on her elbow and wonder just what she is thinking? seductive?....bored?...I know from my personal life that that look is a fine line. The second one I like more but not sure abou the setting with the Knife and what theme you are going for? A little twist in her hips and leaning forward a touch would help that pose. Just my two bits, looking forward to your next images.

Thanks SuperDave:

Your right the first pose was very akward and she was not comfortable at all...

The pose with the knife was just spur of the moment. She just bought the knife because it was featured on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV Show and wanted to show it off. I was going for Seductive but dangerous.

Thank you for the advice on adjustments to the pose.

I will hopefully be posting more as I find time and willing models.

In Image No. 1, I think a slight tilt of the model's head and raising of the eyes would capture more feeling. In addition, an interesting background with maybe limited depth of focus would capture the essence better. On picture number 2, her face could use more light and the light on the rest of her could be less flat. I think when photographing people, even when they are naked, the face is the communicator, whether it is the eyes, maybe lips, or overall expression. We use light to paint this emotion even in digital. You want the image to communicate with it's viewer. I think the difference between glamour and something like in Hustler is that communication. Hustler relies simply on body parts. Glamour relies on spirit. First and foremost, no matter how good (or bad) the model is, the photographer must have a concept of what he or she wants out of the shot, and not be satisfied until it is achieved. Good luck and have fun.

I would like to see more expression in her face. There is nothing wrong with practicing expressions in front of a mirror. ;-)

I know I'm coming to this thread late, but here goes.

The first pic leaves me cold because there really doesn't seem to be much going on. Maybe if you had her leaning into her hand, head tilted and more expression it would work better. The pic as it though seems to lack a focus point and snap.

Her expression in the second photo is better but the combination of leaning back and the knife seem at odds. I think a more agressive pose, maybe on her knees attacking into the camera with the knife. Also, the picture as it stands her face appears to be slightly darker than the rest of her, I think you'd want to highlight the face and eyes.

I'd suggest also looking at different lighting to bring more snap into the image. Key light on the face and body, hairlight slightly behind and above and fill to bring out the countours or bring out highlights.

Best
Rick

Don't worry about coming into the post late, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and your advice is great. I will try to pay more attention to the details you bring up on my next shoot.

Thank you all for the help and I look forward to posting my next set soon to see if I can make some noticable improvements.
