I'm doing a college course in photography and one of the things we are doing is nudes.

A topic that has come up and touch wood (no pun intended), hasn't been a problem so far is *cough* erections *cough*.

Now if you have an attractive female model and she has that effect on someone how is it viewed, is this something that happens from time to time? If so is it just ignored or is it seriously frowned upon.

Maybe you should seriously frown upon it. It's your own personal indication that you've probably stopped thinking about f-stops, shutter speed, ISO, focus and such.
