Microsoft leveled a blast at Google, detailing the enormous scope of Google piracy. The statements were in connection with an ongoing lawsuit over Google's attempt to scan and distribute for Google's benefit, the entire content of millions of copyright-protected books. Google planned to do the project without seeking or getting copyright owners' permission, but was stopped for now by a lawsuit by a coalition of publishers and authors. Echoing a theme voiced by this poster and many other copyright experts, Microsoft pointed out that much of Google's business model rests on massive infringement. In the past, Google has repeatedly claimed and argued in court, that its site is "so useful" that "...what's good for Google is good for humanity." Microsoft politely termed Google's claims that its infringing was excused by the fair use doctrine, to be "overbroad." Independent copyright experts, less politely, have termed Google's fair use claim "utter rubbish." One commenter summed up the current mud-throwing thusly: "Microsoft has been mauled by massive infringement, while Google makes a fortune by infringing. It's not surprising that Microsoft is finally speaking frankly, and even less surprising that Google will keep infringing until it is stopped by the courts."

Here's the link to the entire article.

Speaking of MS, Here’s something you may find interesting.

I recently tried to open a free hotmail account with the term “American” as part of my new e-mail name. I was denied and got this message:

“The Windows Live ID contains a word or phrase that is not allowed. Please try again.”

I tried several times to use the word “American” several ways and received the same denial with the same answer.
