Yes, IMO.

You indicated that the first time was understandable to you, so it's the fact that she cancelled with you to work with another photographer that gets to you. It would to me as well, I suspect.

However, as Roger said, her work ethic is not yours. Ultimately, you should base your decision on how much you want her image in your portfolio - if you want it enough to cover the expenses again, then do it. If not, don't. Don't take her cancellations personally.

It's OK, Mark. We still love you.

Good points! Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. When I first started setting this up, all the pictures she posted were "pre-boob job" and she had the long lean look that works well for figure studies. She is now is much more of a glamour-style model that would not fit into my series as well.

thanks for the comments and the kind words!

regards

mark

I would just like to add that she did tell you that she was going to be a no show. She did put some consideration in blowing you off, instead of letting you set up all your stuff and sit there waiting for her to knock on the door. You would have blown her off too if you had a better (paid gig with hotter model) deal. If she has a kid, then money is probably a big deal to her. I've been trying to take pictures of this one woman for about three months. Maybe this weekend, maybe not. I understand your frustration. Consider coming up with plan B.

My time is money. I've only worked with 20 or so models but I never offer a third shoot.

It seems like everyone say's they want to be a model but few have the heart.

Although I have to agree that 'cash is king' the problem with that is that it calls a person's reliability into question.
What if I come along and offer £50 more?
At what point is someone's word going to be trusted.
You might offer someone £1000 for the day but if she cannot be trusted to keep a promise once it is made then all I have to do is offer £1000 + £1 and now she's mine and you have all your costs to swallow!
I never put up with models who let me down more than once. Especially the ones who give me a b*llsh*t reason.
They will end up coming a cropper sooner or later because they have no business attitude and they work with people who don't either.
Let's face it, when was the last time you had a 'rush-job' in the glamour market?
If a girl is booked by someone else I don't 'poach' her, I book her for the next day.
I have just dropped a really good potential modelwho I'm sur would've done really well - except for the fact that she would rather go out ALL night and have sex in hotels with strangers than properly prepare fo the next day's shoot.
She lied once and then cancelled once.
Bye bye Sheryl!
Good photographers with professionalism, ability, credibility, history, references and experience are truly hard to come by (as an ex model I know this all too well) but models with nice bodies and pretty faces?... they are 10 a penny mate, don't lose sleep over them.

Hi there,

As a model, I feel this girl gives us a bad name. Please know that we are not all "flakes" like she appears to be. I suggest you refuse to reschedule with her. She apparently feels her time more valuable than yours and will cancel with you anytime something she feels is better comes along. She is not serious about working with you.

My rule of thumb is cancelling once is acceptable but if you cancel on me twice I will not work with you. I feel that should be the rule for models or photographers either way.

That is the attitude I have adopted - thanks for the comments.

Lisa:

Thanks for the comments - it is nice to hear from a model's perspective. I have been fortunate to work with a few highly professional models but recently have had a run of less professional ones. As I do more artistic stuff rather than glamour, I don't sell much so I can not afford to work with agencies so I have to endure "models" like this one. BTW, I made no effort to rebook a third time.

On another note, you have a great look - if you are ever out this way, please let me know.

regards

I think you are over reacting. She did call to cancel, more than some will do. Most glamour models are less than half your (or my) age. Don't expect the same level of maturity and responsibility that you have.

My worst no show was for a sunrise shoot. The model assured me 2 days before that she would be there. 4:30 AM: I was there and my assistant was there, but no model. Also unreachable by phone.

Actually that wasn't the worst. My worst was when another model didn't show for an appointment to review her pictures. She called a week later from her hospital bed. At the time of the appointment she was in ICU after a terrible accident. She is now my best model.

What I'm trying to say is don't sweat it, just move on. Shoot her at a later time or not. If you never want to get aggrevated by models, then shoot landscapes.

I had a no show for a landscape shoot at one time also.

I was there to shoot a great landscape, but the weather did not cooperate. I decided to reschedule and try again. Bad weather the second time also.

Cheers,
rfs

Besides, again with deference to GG's ... err... G1's own Yoda-thinkalike, ask around and you'll find plenty of folks (me included, truth be known) that have been blown off when we were expecting a model to show up for a paid shoot. It ain't the money, Mark..

If you were blown off- there wasn't enough money on the table.

It's a good rule of thumb to go by.
