I need a way to accept credit cards, and am confused by the infinite number of options that are available. MOST of my sales would be online, and I use PayPal for that...but would be happy to use somebody else; I really don't like PayPal...it's just what's easy/available. But I will have some sales where people present their card to me in person, and I have no way to deal with that now.

Most folks want to charge a monthly fee, which I would really prefer to avoid...unless the transaction fees go up astronomically. The issue is that I have no way to predict right now what portion of sales will come through what channels. So I need a short term solution for now, and could change things down the road as necessary.

How do you handle credit card payments?

Go to your local bank whichever you hold your accounts at. Speak with the merchant services department they will hook you up with a credit card machine.

When people from out of state order there photos from their session with me I manually input all the numbers it has worked for me so far with no hitches…

You just need their street address, zip code, credit card #, expiration date, and V Code. It is not too hard to do. If any of the info. is incorrect it will get rejected as a safety feature.

Hope this helps.

Paypal may not be the best solution, but it's the easiest and cheapest for me. Whevever someone pays me by credit card in person, I just type the information into my Paypal account online and it works fine. Since many of my clients are out of state, I just set them up with a "Client Access" area on my website -- I send them the invoice, and they go online and pay me. Works every time!. If there are better, cheaper or easier solutions ... I'm all ears.

Check with google checkout as well if you are in US and ChronoPay especially if your intended market is Europe/UK.

IIRC it is against both PayPal's TOS and the law to enter in somebody else's credit card information for them, even with their permission. They have to do it themselves. Not that I suspect you will be hauled away for it, but if somebody decides they don't want to pay someday, all they have to do is say they didn't put it in, you did, and hello chargeback and deletion of PayPal account.
