Hey everyone, what's shakin'? Seems like there's not a whole lot going on around these here parts...

I've actually been pretty busy shooting, just nothing I've been able to post as of yet. This particular shoot was a fun one. The studio was pretty slippery by the time we were done with all the glycerin we spritzed on them, lol.

The girl is my muse, and the guy is the first male model I've ever shot. Well, the first one who wasn't a prop for the girl, anyways.

Nice stuff, Sam. Is it intended to show the two side-by-side, as I see them (although that may be a quirk of GG's software)? There's a certain symmetry, a complementary quality about the two.
Question - I know those shoes are in-fashion now, but don't you personally find them not particularly effective, photographically? I've never grasped how a designer can market something that so clearly chops a woman's foot at such an unflattering position.

Thanks John! And yep, it's one file, just placed the two images side by side so they'd be seen this way.

You mean the open toe part of the shoes? I'm not really a huge fan of open-toed shoes personally, but even so, they didn't really bother me too much here. At least not enough that I didn't want to show the image, lol.

Oh man, those were the good ol' days. I still have that same piece of plywood, too.

How'd you light this, Sam? He looks almost like wet tar.
Is he a dark-skinned black, is he wearing dark make-up, did you adjust the curves, or are you a lighting wizard? Or is it something else? Is there something added to give texture to the shine?
Sorry to be so nosy about what might be a secret.

Nah, no secret. The final wet-tar look is the result of the harsh lighting (one unmodified strobe head high and from the left), his skin tone (he is very dark), makeup (well, not exactly makeup, but the glycerin/water mixture that was sprayed onto him), and contrast adjustments afterwards. That's pretty much it.
