Hello All:

I need to ask the assistance of the members of Garage Glamour in solving a problem that absolutely has me seeing red and ready to blow something up.

I have several friends who use Facebook as a method of promoting their photography and I have been trying for three days to set up a Facebook Page dedicated to my photography and Facebook does not make it easy for people to do this and I am at a complete loss to understand why an organization that relies almost completely on the support of its membership would go so far out of its way to make what is a very simple task impossible for a person to accomplish.

I have been unable to publish my photography page to the internet, I can't invite friends or clients to my page, basically I have wasted the last three days of my life on a fools errand.

I know some people have been successful in getting a Facebook Page up and running for their business but I am at a total loss to see how they pulled it off considering Facebook is so anti-business and they do everything they can to sabatoge business owners who try to use their site to promote themselves.

If anyone here has been successful at getting up a Facebook Page for their business and can give me a step by step guide as to how to do this I would really appreciate it. Perhaps they can post it here in the Forums or as a permanent part of the Tutorials section of Garage Glamour. I know I will appreciate any help I can get and I am sure a lot of other people will as well.

Thanks in advance.

Just setup a standard facebook profile and assign what title you want to it, post your photos and then start an additional fan page to your profile. Mine was done that way and other photographers that I network with have their profiles done the same way.

Jim, thanks for your input. I have tried that and it doesn't work. Everytime I try to do this I get a message from Facebook telling me I am "prohibited from performing this action". I have a friend who uses Facebook quite successfully to promote his photography and he has his set up as John Smith Photography (not his real name) but whenever I try to do this I get silly messages from Facebook.

I know that Facebook has lost several nasty and expensive lawsuits over invasions of privacy and other concerns and maybe this is why it is so difficult to get anything done on that site and possibly the Pages I see were done before Facebook tightened down but it seems to me that they have made things a lot harder than they should be and they are only hurting themselves.

I have a Facebook Page set up under my name but ideally that is not the way I want to do it but I guess for now it will have to suffice. What I want is a different and unique Page for my photography with its own name and if absolutely necessary a separate email address but for some reason Facebook refuses to let me do that so I guess I am stuck with what I have for now.

You mentioned something about setting up a "Fan" page attached to my regular Facebook profile? How do I do this? Is there anything else I need to do or be aware of in dealing with Facebook and their arbitrary policies? Thanks.

Facebook has recently changed the FAN page to a LIKE button. If you go to your ACCOUNT SETTINGS you can change your name to what you want and also look for the LIKE button feature. It's been a while back since I did added that to mine and don't recall exactly how it was done, but here is a link that may be helpful.

I guess I am not a sharp tool today. I have a page on face book and cannot start a fan page either. I found the place to change my name but cannot see how to start a fan page. However I have seen it done by other photographers. I guess I need to hire me some young kid to write code or something.

It's a few months since I created my facebook page, but if I remember correctly you go to the login page and under the Sign up button is a link which says 'Create a page...'.

If that doesn't work post here and I try and find more details.

I did a little more research on this topic. Try this link to create a facebook customers and fan page that links it to your existing profile. Looks like the (LIKE) button is automatically included when you do this.
