If many of you are like myself, you like to come up with ways to save money, but also protect your equipment from getting banged up. I found a way to do both with the help of a local photographer friend, Chuck Minson. He fills his case with foam for his Alien Bees in a duffle bag case you buy at a sports store that has roller blade wheels.
You cut the foam using a serated knife, or you can go high tech and use a serated knife attached to an electric knife. I did this for my Hensel 3 light kit and it makes it easier to assemble and disassemble equipment. My gear is kept from getting from being banged and beaten as well.
Attached is a coupon to Joan Fabrics. I spent 50 dollars for the 3 feet of 5 inch foam and I think it is a good investment. The difference in weight is nill, but my equipment does not roll around or get lost. That is another issue, because everything has its place, it is easier to tell if I am missing something. The coupon is printable, enjoy the 40 percent off coupon it is pretty self explanatory.
