Despite the 30 mph wind, the cloudy day and the 50 degree temps, Brookie never complained. Although this was only her second photoshoot, she did everything necessary to get some great shots ... even when I asked her to get into the water!

All the images were taken at Lake Grapevine, Texas with a Nikon D700 and an SB-800 Speedlight.

Given the results, you've found a real trooper. I'd have never guessed that it wasn't warm and pleasant.
Thanks for sharing.

Marty, Awesome work.

You were gracious enough to give me some great advice when I was a newbie & regular back here a few years ago. Hard to imagine back then how your work could improve, but it has.

Outstanding series.

Marty very nice images I will add too. I might ask how do you like the nikon 700. I am looking to go digital and that looks like what i want to go to. Is there anything you would change? I have heard that the d700 is a great overall camera.

I probably will not get rid of my film cameras as I still love the darkroom.

Thanks for all the compliments ... although most of the credit goes to Brookie, who endured the fridged, windy day to make this all happen.

I moved up from the D300, so there was a very quick learning curve. The D700 has been a great camera. Pros: I love getting back to full frame because I like shooting wide angle shots. Cons: The white balance settings give me different results than the same settings on my old D300. The D700 pictures look more saturated and the increased reds can make the models look like they have rosatia. The easy fix ... turn down the saturation a bit. Otherwise ...I love the D700

For only a second shoot the model looks very comfortable in front of
the camera, rare.

If it is actual 30mph wind, it seemed that you captured her when the wind is calm, hmm?

Start with long, thick hair extensions. Add lot's of hairspray. Find a location where the trees, hills or rock ledges block most of the wind. Wait until the gusts subside for a few minutes. Point your model into the wind ... and, start taking pictures as fast as you can. When finished, wrap the model in a long, heavy terry cloth robe and wait until she thaws and is ready to go again.
