I'm planning to use light gray outdoor carpet as a backdrop for a group of 20 gymnists. The 12' wide carpet will be attached horizontally to a 26' wide wall. Has anyone used carpet this way before - any advice will be appreciated.

Carpet works great as a backdrop. It doesn't show hot spots like seamless paper and has an even texture. Only issue I found ... it's very heavy and hard to hang.

I did gymnastic and dance classes as well as little league basketball and cheer teams for years. I had to come in and set up within 30 minutes, so I bought a muslin painted blue with what looked like white puffy clouds on it. Cost was about $175 with shipping for the 12 X 20 size. I hung it horizontal and used four stands to keep it straight. I have seen guys use carpet for everything including bridal portraits. It is a matter of what you can afford and what works for your situation. Rick from Arkansas

As mentioned, it's heavy and hard to hang. But yeah, it can look good. Another suggestion is a similarly-sized piece of linoleum flooring. It's also heavy and hard to hang but can be quite cool, especially a piece with an interesting pattern and appropriate colors... as long as it doesn't detract from the subjects.
