Looking for some feedback on what I did right and what I can do to improve. These images of my wife were done with a black felt backdrop and floor covering using natural light from camera right and a silver reflector on camera left. No artificial flash or strobes were used.

Shooting with natural light isn't often done using a black BG and black under the model. In the second, for instance, her hair gets lost in the black. My guess is cuz, when you processed, you made the black blacker. It's almost doing the same in pic 1.

Jimmy's point about the background are spot on, it you notice the shoes and even the dress almost disappear into the background. You have a very lovely model and a live in one at that! You've already got the battle half won. Natural light is a very good way to start out. The lighting pattern in #2 is very nice. if you notice, the side of her face facing the camera is the shadow side. The side that is being hit directly with the main light is away from the camera. This is a short lighting pattern and is very lovely indeed. Compare that to photo #1 which is a broad lighting pattern. The side of her face directly facing the camera is being hit by the main light. This generally makes the face appear broader then it really is. Ask your wife which one she prefers.

BTW, meant to say this when I first responded: We're all "still learning."
