It was freakin' hot out there! Boil-your-brain hot! Plus lots of sudden wind gusts and dirt devils kickin' it up.
Here's a BTS shot I snapped, captured around mid-day. For this set we were overpowering the sun with one-light (Buff/Zeus pack & head) and using the Innovatronix ExplorerXT
portable power system to energize the pack. Shooter is RickH (Simi Studio) w/ Lewis, my PGS DVD partner, assisting. Model is Dahlia, hired off of Model Mayhem. She was a trooper all day in the heat and dirt, etc.
We arrived at the location around 10:30 AM and were there till about 8:00 PM, splitting our time between the private property location where we set up our base of operations (with a big, pop-up canopy) and out on the dry lake bed. Mother nature provided some cool clouds in the BG for part of the day. Plenty of sunscreen, water, Gatorade, Red Bull on hand. A fun (tho exhausting) day was had by all.
We snagged some great footage (HD video) as well as a number of cool photo sets demonstrating different artificial lighting set-ups or simply using scrims and reflectors. I shot BTS stuff and a very short, golden-hour, set out on the dry lake bed. I had Rick doing most of the photo-shooting while I abused him, I mean mentored him, for most of the day. We also had two video-cam operators, Kyle and Patrick, rounding out the crew.
