One of my favorite models, Mary, call me last week to say she moved into a brand new, multi-million dollar downtown condo ... and wanted to know if I'd shoot her around the pool area. I jumped at the opportunity. Unfortunately there was a 30 mph wind blowing, so I couldn't use any of my strobes (and my assistant was busy). Not to fear, I strapped on my trusty SB-800 and started shooting.

I thought about using a shallow DOF, but the skyline, clouds and pool area were beautiful ... so I decided to shoot at a higher aperture and bring in the city. What would you have done?

And finally, here's one that's been done before ... but it only took me three shots to get. Unfortunately, the background is too busy for my taste.

I like the results from the first three images. The backgrounds have other things in them but pleasant to look at but that 4th one isn't very attractive with the new construction going on.

The wonderful thing about opinions, everyone has one . . . including me I guess.

I'd had gone with a shallower depth of field.

IMHO

I have to agree with Artforms. The first 3 the skyline is great. In the last one the construction in the back ground does take some of the feel away. Glad you jumped at the change thou.

Hmmm. She seems to have a head that is a little larger. The first image, imo, accentuates that and really draws this to light. I'm just not digging it. Dunno if it's the lens, angle of shot (which makes her body seem smaller.) or what.

The last one is a tough one. The problem I find when I do these is that all the product they have in their hair makes it clump up. That hurts the image. I think it looks better with hair spread out instead of all sticking together!

Yikes! I gave my model a big head! LOL

Great observation ... now that you mention it, her head is a little big -- and I know why. Since I shot this pic with a wide angle lens (my 28-70mm @ 28mm), there was a little wide angle curvature which made the column on the right side of the picture seem to lean into the picture. I used Edit-Transform-Distort in PS4 to straighten the column ... and it made the top part of the picture a bit larger. I didn't notice that her head also got larger (hummmmm .... wonder what was distracting me? LOL) Thanks for the great catch!
